What is your engineering team really able to deliver?
Price your team, describe how it works today, and see what the same people could deliver when they are aligned on the right work and build with AI as part of how they ship.
What your engineering team costs
Enter headcount by location, or one blended average. Salaries are pre-filled with rough market figures for mid-to-senior engineers. Replace them with your own.
How the team works today
Pick the AI maturity level that matches the team as a whole, then estimate where engineering time actually goes. Rough answers are fine.
AI maturity today
What the same team could deliver
The target is a team that is fully aligned on the right work, loaded with engineering time instead of overhead, and working at a higher AI maturity level. Adjust the target and the investment.
From today to target, in effective engineers
One effective engineer is one person spending all of their time on the right engineering work, without AI. The dashed line is your actual headcount.

How this is calculated
Effective engineers = headcount × engineering time × (1 − misalignment) × AI multiplier
The AI multiplier applies to engineering time only. Defaults by level: None 1.0×, Exploring 1.1×, Adopted 1.2×, Integrated 1.45×, AI-native 1.8×. These are planning assumptions, not measurements. Published results range widely: GitHub's 2022 controlled study saw a scoped task finished 55% faster with Copilot, while METR's 2025 trial found experienced open-source developers 19% slower with AI tools. DORA's 2025 research describes AI as an amplifier of how well a team already works, which is why alignment is modelled as its own lever.
Capacity unlocked = (target effective − today effective) ÷ today's productivity × average loaded cost. It is the payroll you would need to add to get the same extra output by hiring at today's productivity.
The scenario sets how much of the gap between today and target is realised. Gains ramp linearly to that level over the months you set. Costs are the one-time enablement spend at month 0 plus the monthly tooling difference.
